Devlog #001 - From Unpaid Intern to Starting Something Real

I’ve been meaning to properly document my game development journey, and I guess this is me finally starting.

This devlog is a compilation of my early notes from when I was still learning on my own before I started streaming. I used to call these my “BB Intern Logs,” back when I joked that I was my partner’s unpaid intern.

๐Ÿ—‚️ Devlog Note

This entry compiles my earlier logs (#BBInternLog001–003), documented before I began streaming regularly on Twitch.

๐Ÿ› ️ What I Worked On

My first few days were mostly about setting things up and exploring what was even possible.

Set up a dedicated Discord space for:

  • devlogs
  • mind dumps
  • resources
  • learning notes

Explored beginner tools like Scratch

Researched pixel art tools (Aseprite, Piskel, Pixel Studio, Pixquare)

Practiced digital art using Ibis Paint X

Created my Twitch channel and ran my first test stream !!!

Followed a beginner 2D platformer tutorial in Godot

๐ŸžChallenges

Even this early on, I was already overthinking everything.

Constant second-guessing: “Am I doing too much? Too soon?”

Unsure which tools and platforms to commit to.

Limited access to certain tools (especially for pixel art on Android).

Small technical issues during my first stream (audio/layout).

Comparing myself to experienced developers.

๐Ÿง  What I Learned

There were a lot of small realizations during this phase.

Starting really is the hardest part.

Setting up your tools makes everything feel more real.

There’s no “perfect” starting point. You just choose and begin.

Even test streams can turn into something meaningful.

I actually enjoy the process… especially the part where I get to talk through it.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Reflections

This was Day 1, 2… and 3.

It wasn’t perfect. I was confused, a little overwhelmed, and constantly comparing myself to people who had been doing this for years. But I also did something I hadn’t done before. I started.

What began as curiosity (and honestly, a way to cope with stress) slowly started to feel real. Setting things up, trying tools, even accidentally streaming for two hours… it all made this feel like something I could actually pursue.

๐Ÿ“Œ Next Steps

Continue learning and finishing my first Godot tutorial

Improve my stream setup and branding.

Stay consistent through weekly streams.

Keep documenting everything! ...even the messy parts

And I think that’s enough for now.
